Wayne Escoffery

Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Wayne Escoffery, one of today’s leading jazz voices and a longtime member of the Mingus ensembles, joins Jazz Point Ibiza 2026 as a special guest soloist.

Born in London and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, he studied under the mentorship of legendary saxophonist Jackie McLean and later at the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. A longtime member of the Mingus Big Band and former member of Tom Harrell’s acclaimed quintet, Escoffery has performed and recorded with an extraordinary range of artists, including Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Al Foster, Billy Hart, Eddie Henderson and Randy Brecker. As a bandleader and composer, he has released a series of critically acclaimed recordings, while his powerful, vibrant sound, technical command and lyrical intensity have made him one of the most sought-after saxophonists of his generation. He is also a founding member of the Black Art Jazz Collective and currently directs jazz ensembles and teaches jazz saxophone at Yale University.
